OUR 4-IN-1 PROGRAMME
- Cambridge Advanced Level Programme (A/L CIE)
- O/Level Remedial
- UTME/Post-UTME Preparation
- Overseas Admissions
Advanced Level is a stop-gap programme between the secondary school and the university. It is as old as the university education itself. It has always been the standard requirement for university admission worldwide. In Nigeria, it is the first requirement for every course as seen in the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) brochure. It is the candidates who do not have this standard requirement that are required to sit for the UTME examination. Many of the university graduates of the 60s, 70s and even 80s passed through the 2-year Advanced Level course, the Higher School Certificate (HSC) course. Essentially, the Advanced Level is normally the first year and, in some cases, part of the second year course of a university. It is the basic course of 3 principal subjects of a student’s professional or educational course in the university. For instance, a student reading Medicine in the university will offer Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the first year degree programme. It is these subjects that candidates offering Advanced Level programme must study also. Hence, Advanced Level graduates automatically gain admission through the direct entry mode to the University without recourse to taking any Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME and Post UTME.
Various bodies offer Advanced Level examinations including W.A.E.C, but the Cambridge Advanced Level examination (CIE), has enhanced International status as the examination is conducted worldwide in May/June and October/November every year. The relevance and integrity of such examination is self-evident and not in doubt as it makes a candidate’s academic worth comparable to others in such countries in Europe, America, Canada and indeed all over the world. In these days in which many examination bodies are stigmatized with examination malpractices, it is wise to have this as additional qualification that can vouch for one’s academic status in the highly competitive world of learning and the labour market.
University admission in Nigeria is plagued with uncertainties. In some cases, many brilliant candidates’ results in UTME are seized. Some others expecting high scores are surprised of the ridiculous scores given to them. Those with even good scores may not gain admission in view of the competitive nature of the admission exercise as about 10% of the candidates eventually scale through. Worse still, some candidates after scaling the hurdles of UTME/Post UTME examinations are disappointed because of some deficiencies in the school certificate results either due to weak passes or outright seizure of some subjects prerequisite to the courses they intend to pursue in the university. Besides, many students did not complete the Senior Secondary syllabus in some subjects despite obtaining passing grades in those subjects.
All these problems can be solved while simultaneously pursuing the Advanced Level Programme without losing time. Besides, the Advanced Level candidates will perform better in UTME examination than ordinary SS3 or Remedial or pre-degree graduates from our Universities.
The Advanced Level Programme is also a maturation programme giving the student a foretaste of the University education. It is for the foregoing reason that Advanced Level graduates always distinguish themselves in the Universities.
Gaining admission into Doyen Academy now opens to you the opportunity of direct admission to top Universities abroad, including highly-rated Universities in the United Kingdom (UK). As the student studies and completes his A-Level programme, he is opened upto many opportunities and possibilities for direct university admission in Nigeria as well, if the student so desires.
Doyen Academy is thus offering its students and Nigerians a once-in-a-life-time opportunity for quality oversea education, through this Foundation Programme.
Our students leave the school as soon as they gain University admission in Nigeria, through the UTME. At the same time, students on the Foundation Programme are practically in their first year degree programme of distinguished foreign universities affiliated to Doyen Academy and will simply proceed to the 2nd year of the degree course in their chosen disciplines overseas.
